CHILD & ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM

The Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food & Nutrition Services (FNS). The CACFP, a federal program, is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and in Ohio, is administered through the Ohio Department of Education. Nearly 20 agencies serve as CACFP sponsors for Family Day Care Homes in Ohio.

ECO is one of the larger CACFP sponsors in northeast Ohio currently serving more than 250 Family Day Care Providers and more than 2,000 children every month. The CACFP reimburses Family Day Care Providers for as many as 2 meals and 1 snack, or 2 snacks and 1 meal per day per enrolled child.

Why participate?

  • Through the CACFP, children’s nutritional needs are met on a daily basis.
  • The program plays a vital role in improving the quality of child care and making it affordable for many low-income families.
  • Through the CACFP, 2.9 million children and 86,000 adults receive nutritious meals and snacks each day as part of their day care.
  • Family Child Care Providers are better off financially if they are on the food program!

As a CACFP sponsor, Early Childhood Options plays a critical role in supporting family day care providers through training, technical assistance, monitoring and reimbursement. All family day care homes must use a sponsoring organization to access the Food Program.
